DayHike-2026-02.jpg

Men, join us for a day of fellowship and adventure as we explore a scenic area along the shores of Lake Martin near Tallassee. There is no cost, but advance registration is required (see below). This trip also is open to boys ages 5 and up who are accompanied by their fathers or grandfathers.

We will begin by exploring the newly restored Jimmy K. Lanier Fire Tower.  Everyone will have an opportunity to climb to the top of the tower for some scenic views of Lake Martin and the surrounding area.  After exploring the tower, we will hike the Chimney Rock Trail, a loop trail that winds through the woods that includes a portion right along the shore of Lake Martin.  The trail is rated moderate with a few hills to climb.

The hike will be a total of about 3 miles. Please pack a simple lunch or snack that you can enjoy as we take a break along the trail.  Read more info about the trail from the trail association or All Trails.

WHEN & WHERE TO MEET

We will meet on Saturday, February 21, at 8:45 a.m. in the Gateway parking lot.  We will carpool up to the trailhead which is west of Dadeville.  It will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there.

If you prefer, you may meet us at the trailhead.  If you elect this option, please plan to be at the Overlook Park/Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail (which is the trailhead) by 10:00 a.m.  When you register, please let us know where you plan to meet.

We should return to the church by late afternoon.

We will provide a group first aid kit and insect repellent.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:

  1. Small backpack to hold your water, snacks and lunch to eat on the trail
  2. Water (1-2 liters for the hike)
  3. High-protein snacks and a simple lunch for the trail (energy bars, beef jerky, trail mix, sandwich, etc.)
